This post is a newsletter article featuring Karen Duffy, RMT, in the August 2025 Club Pilates – St. Albert Email Newsletter.

This month, we’re excited to feature Karen Duffy, a dedicated client whose Pilates journey is deeply intertwined with her work as a massage therapist, her path toward becoming a Pilates Instructor, and her role as a mom. We asked Karen a few questions about how Pilates supports her busy, multifaceted life—and her thoughtful responses truly inspired us.

Here’s what Karen had to say:

1. What first brought you to Club Pilates, and how long have you been practicing with us?

“I am always looking for new and challenging ways to move my body. I was excited to realize that Club Pilates was opening up in the same complex that my clinic, The Joint Physiotherapy, was in. It was an easy decision to sign up! I became a founding member and from my first class during opening week, I was hooked!”

2. Has Pilates impacted your life or work as a massage therapist at Joint Physio in any specific ways?

“Yes! Massage Therapy is a physically demanding profession. It requires full body strength, particularly in my arms, shoulders and back. Pilates has helped built up this strength, as well as adding some much needed core strength. This means I can reduce my risk of work injury, while continuing to meet my client’s needs.”

3. You’re a busy mom—how do you balance family life with making time for yourself?

“I firmly believe that carving out time for myself gives me more to draw on for my family. Club Pilates classes help me gain the energy, both mentally and physically, needed to be the best mom I can be.”

4. We are thrilled that you have decided to sign up for teacher training this Fall. What inspired you to take this leap?

“I work in an industry dedicated to the promotion of pain free movement. I have quickly realized that Pilates can be a big part of that and I look forward to bringing the knowledge I gain to my clients.”

5. Anything fun or surprising we should know about you?

“I love diamond painting! It’s a great way to relax my body and my mind! I recommend it to anyone who wants a quick and satisfying craft.”
