Our goal is to provide comprehensive care that alleviates pain, restores function, and helps you return to your normal activities safely and effectively. Discover how our MVA rehabilitation program can make a difference in your recovery journey.

What is MVA Rehabilitation?

MVA rehabilitation focuses on the assessment, treatment, and recovery of injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents. These injuries can range from mild to severe and often involve complex issues that require specialized care. At The Joint Physiotherapy, our skilled therapists are experienced in managing MVA-related injuries and providing personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual’s needs.

How Does MVA Rehabilitation Work?

Our MVA rehabilitation program involves several key components to ensure optimal recovery:

Comprehensive Assessment

We begin with a thorough evaluation of your injuries, medical history, and current symptoms to develop a personalized treatment plan.

Pain Management

Techniques such as manual therapy, electrotherapy, and therapeutic exercises are used to alleviate pain and reduce inflammation.

Restoration of Function

We focus on restoring mobility, strength, and function through targeted exercises and rehabilitation techniques.

Education and Support

We provide education on injury management, home exercises, and lifestyle modifications to support your recovery.

MVA Insurance and Funding

Navigating MVA insurance and funding can be complex, but we are here to help. Here’s an overview of how MVA insurance works and what you can expect:

  • Insurance Coverage: Most automobile insurance policies in Alberta cover the cost of rehabilitation following a motor vehicle accident under the Diagnostic Treatment Protocols (DPTR). This includes physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, and other necessary treatments.
  • Accident Benefits: Under Alberta’s auto insurance regulations, accident benefits are available to cover medical and rehabilitation expenses, regardless of who was at fault.
  • Initial Treatment Protocols: These protocols provide immediate funding for treatments within the first 90 days post-accident. You can access physiotherapy services directly without a doctor’s referral during this period.
  • Extended Treatment Plans (Section B): If you require treatment beyond the initial 90-day period, we will develop a treatment plan and submit it to your insurance provider to ensure continuous care. If you are diagnosed with a fracture, dislocation, WAD III or WAD IV you will bypass protocols and proceed directly to Section B.
  • Direct Billing: We offer direct billing to most insurance companies to simplify the payment process and reduce out-of-pocket expenses for our patients.

We will ensure the appropriate paperwork is completed at your initial visit (AB-1 and AB-2 forms), and can submit them to the insurance company on your behalf. Your physiotherapist will complete a thorough initial assessment, accurately determine your diagnosis and complete all the appropriate forms. We will ensure these are submitted in a timely manner to your insurance company so you can prioritize recovery and getting back to normal!
