About Max Dufour

Max was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. Always active with his three younger brothers, he played a wide variety of sports in his youth. His choice to pursue a career in physiotherapy was an easy one – Max was fascinated by anatomy in high school and played a bunch of sports throughout his life, which sometimes ended up with a visit at the physio. Physiotherapy seemed like a cool job at the time, and he can now confirm it is one! Max first earned both his Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in Psychology, and a Certificate in Sustainability in 2021. After a year of clinical experience, and deciding that he had sent enough dry needling patients Bobby’s way, he determined that getting his certification was inevitable. In 2024, he obtained his Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta and his Biomedical Dry Needling certification.

Max believes in a patient-centered approach to physiotherapy – he works with patients to establish a treatment plan that matches their goals. This holistic approach to treatment considers the social and psychological aspects in combination with an individual’s presenting problem. He encourages an active approach to treatment with functional exercises and specific, relevant education being key tenants of a patient’s rehab. Max provides manual therapy techniques, dry needling and therapeutic modalities for a well-rounded toolset to help patients achieve their therapy goals and achieve positive outcomes. Max is someone who loves to make the people around him laugh – so he always makes sure to take the opportunity when he can. If a big smile could cure, Max would have patients all fixed up on day one!

Max also believes giving back to the community is important. Despite having joined the physiotherapy ranks just 18 months prior, Max wasted no time and mentored his first physiotherapy student in the summer of 2025, a very rewarding experience. He also has many years of experience volunteering with various organizations such as the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the University of Alberta, and the Flying Canoe Volant Festival.

He enjoys spending time with his loved ones (yes, that includes the in-laws!) and always looks forward to Sunday dinners at his parents. In the summertime, Max enjoys activities such as playing volleyball, tennis, and biking in the River Valley. In the winter, he loves heading to the Rocky Mountains with a good pair of skis to tackle the slopes!

Max is proud to offer physical therapy services in both French and English.

If he could only eat 1 meal for the rest of eternity, what would it be?

That’s not an easy question, as eating is probably Max’s favourite hobby. He’d have to go with his grandpa’s ribs and mashed potatoes… nostalgia is one powerful thing, because he just remembered he hasn’t had those in years. Time to call grandpa!

Favourite sport to play, favourite sport to watch?

Favourite sport to play is volleyball in the winter and tennis in the summer. Favourite to watch – hockey. Nothing beats the Montreal Canadiens crushing the Leafs on a Saturday night.

Specialty dish in the kitchen?

Max is known as the crockpot king at home. Nothing beats tossing everything in there and getting home to a delicious meal (with minimal dishes).

What’s his favourite TV show?

Let him give you a list: Game of Thrones, Suits, Peaky Blinders, La Casa de Papel, The Boys… he could keep going.

What’s his guilty pleasure (food, TV show, hobby)?

Easy – sweet potato fries! And don’t forget the aioli.
