About Caitlin Kamminga

Born and raised in St. Albert, Caitlin had an active childhood. After trying a few different sports/activities, she ultimately fell in love with competitive swimming and joined the Olympian Swim Club. When she graduated high school, she earned a spot on the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas University Swim Team. On top of a successful swimming career, she learned a lot about injury management, having suffered two major concussions and had shoulder surgery. Celebrating athletic success by overcoming adversity was a definite theme throughout her career in the pool.

Caitlin is a creative spirit with a passion for storytelling, particularly through film, visual art, and music. While at University of Alberta, she earned a degree in English and Film Studies. She then translated her passion into a marketing career by earning her BBA from NAIT a few years later. When she’s not creating content for The Joint, she’s usually working on a creative side project (typically in the form of a music video).

Caitlin has always maintained a love for St. Albert and its community. As a child, when she wasn’t training or at school, she was exploring St. Albert on her bike with her friends. These days, she can either be found at local events representing The Joint, collaborating with fellow businesses and community members, or at the clinic subjecting her colleagues to social media posts. Or, she’s working on the next event. She is the resident extrovert!

Away from The Joint, when she isn’t running through St. Albert’s many trails, Caitlin coaches with the St. Albert Sailfish Swim Club and plays on an ultimate frisbee team during the summer. During the winter, she can be found skating on one of the many outdoor skating rinks in St. Albert with her family or out for walks with her husband and dog.

Favourite Movie
Caitlin will answer this without even blinking – it’s The Princess Bride (1987) because it’s “the perfect film.” However, Caitlin also has a soft spot for animation – especially Disney. Some of her favourites are Robin Hood (1973), Tarzan (1999) (who doesn’t love the soundtrack of this movie?) and The Emperor’s New Groove (2000).

Favourite Musician
Fun fact – Caitlin is the one who makes the playlists for The Joint. She has a wide range of taste with music, and seldom turns down the chance to listen to something new. However, her all-time favourites include Marianas Trench and Fly By Midnight.

Toughest thing she’s ever done, and would she do it again?
Caitlin ran her first marathon in August 2025. Previously being a long-distance swimmer, she thought that it would be comparable to races she had done before – she was wrong. Despite having done intense training for 10 months leading up to it, she maintains running a marathon was the hardest thing she has ever done. However, she has not ruled out doing another one in the future, or something equally as challenging.

If she could instantly learn any skill, what would it be?
She would love to instantly be able to speak every modern language. She can speak English, French, and Spanish, and is learning Japanese.

Does she have any nicknames (from work/sports/friends)?
Caitlin has spent most of her life not being called “Caitlin” by the majority of people (even her family), but instead goes by some variation of her last name. Examples include “Kamminga,” “Kammy,” and “C-Kam.” She will never get used to being called “Caitlin” in public.
