Caitlin Kamminga
About Caitlin Kamminga
Born and raised in St. Albert, Caitlin had an active childhood. After trying many different sports and activities, she fell in love with competitive swimming, which lead to a successful 13-year career. Celebrating athletic success by overcoming adversity was a definite theme of her career in the pool. She especially learned a lot about injury management, having suffered two major concussions and underwent shoulder surgery.
Caitlin is a creative spirit with a passion for storytelling – particularly through film, visual art, and music. She earned a degree in English and Film Studies from the University of Alberta, then transitioned into a marketing career by earning her BBA from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). She usually has at least one creative project on the go at all times.
Caitlin has always maintained a love for St. Albert and its community. As a child, when she wasn’t training or at school, she was out exploring St. Albert on her bike with her friends. These days, she can either be found at local events representing The Joint, collaborating with fellow businesses and community members, or at the clinic subjecting her colleagues to social media posts. Or, she’s working on the next event. She is the resident extrovert!
During the summer, when she isn’t out running through St. Albert’s many trails, Caitlin coaches with the St. Albert Sailfish Swim Club and plays ultimate frisbee. During the winter, she enjoys skating on the many local outdoor skating rinks with her family or going out for walks with her husband and dog.
Favourite Movie
Caitlin will answer this without even blinking – it’s The Princess Bride (1987) because it’s “the perfect film.” She also has a soft spot for animation – especially Disney. Some of her favourites include Robin Hood (1973), Tarzan (1999) (who doesn’t love the soundtrack of this movie?) and The Emperor’s New Groove (2000).
Favourite Musician
Fun fact – Caitlin is responsible for the playlists at The Joint. She has a wide range of taste in music, and seldom turns down the chance to listen to something new. Some of her favourites include Marianas Trench and Fly By Midnight. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, feel free to let her know!
Toughest thing she’s ever done, and would she do it again?
Caitlin ran her first marathon in August 2025. She thought that it would be comparable to the long-distance races she had done in swimming – she was wrong. Despite having done intense training for 10 months leading up to it, she maintains running a marathon was the hardest thing she has ever done. However, she has not ruled out doing another one in the future, or something equally as challenging.
If she could instantly learn any skill, what would it be?
She would love to instantly be able to speak every modern language. She can speak English, French, and Spanish, and is learning Japanese.
Does she have any nicknames (from work/sports/friends)?
Caitlin has spent most of her life not being called “Caitlin” by the majority of people (even her family), but instead goes by some variation of her last name. She will never get used to being called “Caitlin” in public.
